Bruderhilfe Social Development Initiative in the campaign for safe migration to Europe actively participated towards the success of the information session “Migration enlightenment” organized by the African–German Information Centre (AGIC) Germany, which was supported by the Federal foreign affairs, Germany. The programme held on the 12th September 2017 at the Centre for Management Development (CMD) Old Toll-Gate, Shangisha, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria was designed for the target audience such as the Nigerian Youths, Journalists, Youth Empowerment Organization and other related Government Agencies at all levels.

About fifty (50) Nigerian youths were mobilized by the Bruderhilfe Social Development Initiative to participate in the programme. We thrive to find appropriate media to keep Nigerian youths informed on the danger of unplanned and irregular migration to Europe as well as intimate on other legal and well-structured means of overseas migration such as studies and professional work. The information session was attended by Honorable Orji Odichimma Rita, the chairman on House committee on diaspora, who talked about the mal-treatment of young girls and women in their irregular journey to Europe.

Mrs. Sadat Hassan, the deputy comptroller of the Nigeria immigration Service (NIS) who was also was in attendant, deliberated on the unpleasant and demeaning experiences of Nigerians who had found themselves in Germany through an irregular migration. In her six years of service in Germany she has had encounter with quite a number of these victims whose ultimate end is always deportation. In attendance were some victims of illegal trip to Europe, who were opportuned to share their experiences on this regards. Some other participants also spoke on how they succeeded in their chosen career in Nigeria without having any need to travel overseas.

Mary Bruder, the president of the Bruderhilfe Social Development Initiative in her comment, informed the participants on some challenges encountered by refugees in Germany due to unplanned and irregular migration. She further established that the majority of africans who succeed in Europe are those who studied in their home country before embarking on an overseas journey. The Bruderhilfe in her core goal in helping and empowering the less privileged Nigeria youths is planning to initiate an overseas scholarship programme for study in Germany for gifted Nigerian youths. Also in pipeline is a well-structured skill acquisition training programme planned in cooperation with a German organization.
